The Mechanical Engineering Department offers a four-year program leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Students majoring in other fields may earn a minor in mechanical engineering by special arrangement. It is possible for students to be employed in a cooperative program by local industries.

The undergraduate curriculum is broadly based to accommodate a variety of career goals. In addition to the University core curriculum, students take required courses in engineering, science, and mathematics as well as supplementary elective courses. The courses introduce basic engineering science and design concepts and provide students with opportunity to develop specific career interests.

The mechanical engineering curriculum is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). The program is designed so that required courses are used to meet ABET requirements for engineering design and engineering science content. The mechanical engineering curriculum meets or exceeds all university core curriculum requirements.
